It will be Russell's fourth stint with the Padres this season. In six games earlier this year, the 27-year-old gave up four runs in 9 2/3 innings (3.72 earned run average), while striking out 11.

With Russell recalled, the Padres have 30 players on the active roster and a full 40-man roster.
